Bundi City
Your Rendezvous With the City
Cenotaph in Bundi - Rajasthan, Bundi, RajasthanA trip to Bundi will take back in time. This picturesque and enchanting little town has retained its medieval charm. As the place is not that frequented by tourists the exploration and stay here becomes very easy and relaxed. Although Bundi has many historical sites, but they need to be repaired. Still, the magic of town has surpassed it and so people are attracted towards it. The place is remarkable for its paintings and murals. Surrounded by Aravalli ranges from three sides, the city has a strong wall with four gateways. The location of a lake and a medieval fortress are another jewel in the city. Glimpses From History
The History of Bundi is quite interesting. The efflorescence of Rajputs saw the city as a great stately province when it was conquered by Rao Deva Hara in 1241. Regarded as the land grant of the ruler's eldest son, Kota was part of Bundi. But Jehangir separated Bundi from Kota. In 1193 A.D. Mohammed Gori defeated Prithiviraj Chauhan and there after some Chauhan nobles sought shelter in Mewar becoming allies to Rana while some moved to Chambal valley where they overpowered the tribes of Meena and Bhil. They established their own kingdom of Hadoti. Two separates states of Kota and Bundi were formed by Hadas on either sides of Chambal. The significance of Bundi flickered during Mughal Times, but it retained its freedom and independence till the time of Indian independence.

A Tourist's Delight (Famous Attractions of Bundi)

It was built by Rao Anirudh Singh in 1683 to honor the services of Deva, his lactating nurse. The edifice served both as temple and a cenotaph.
