Glimpses From History
The History of Nagaur will tell that the town was dominated by the Delhi
Sultanate, the rulers of Marwar and Gujarat. It was conquered by Sher Shah
in 1542. Eventually, it became a part of the Mughal kingdom as a sarkar of
Ajmer subah during the reign of Sur and later in Mughal empire. It has a
mosque here built by Akbar and the holy shrine of the disciple of Moinuddin
Chishti of Ajmer.

Delight
Nagaur Fort / Achitragarh Fort : The city has the famous
primitive sandstone fort built in 2nd century. The fort houses water
reservoirs, old palaces, small temples and other edifices. The paintings in
the fort hung on the walls are extraordinary.
Tarkeen Dargah : It is a sacred pilgrimage for the
Muslims and Sufis. The shrine is dedicated to Hamiduddin Nagauri, the
disciple of the Khwaja of
Ajmer.
Glass Jain Temple : The Jains also have their place of
worship here. The temple is carved out of glass and is regarded as sacred by
the Jainis.
Khimsar Fort : Thakur Karam Singhji, in the16th century,
built the magnificent Khimsar fort. The fort has now been converted into a
heritage hotel.
Saiji ka Tanka : It is a final resting place of the much
revered saint. This symbol of communal harmony is frequented by the
visitors.
Cenotaph : The city has some exquisite cenotaphs that are
worth visiting. Among them the important ones are Sawan and Bhadon
Cenotaphs, Amar Singh Rathore Ki Chhatri and cenotaph of the Maratha General
Appaji.
Highlights of Nagaur
Nagaur has gained prominence among the attractions of Rajasthan due to its
Cattle Fair. During this eight day long affair in January February,
you will see cattle trading, camel races, camp fires, folk dances, puppet
shows and cock fighting. People from nearby states also participate in the
fair. A flock of 70,000 animals are traded in a traditional style. Traders
also set up stalls of chilli powder, iron ware, wooden articles and camel
leather.
