The
city of Rajsamand is sure to take the travelers in the medieval times.
Located in the southern part of Rajasthan, the city is said to be oval in
shape and is sandwiched between Udaipur, Pali, Bhilwara, Ajmer and Chittor
districts. The district and the lovely town has been named after Rajsamand
Lake, an artificial lake, constructed by Rana Raj Singh of Mewar in the 17th
century. The district of Rajsamand was made from Mewar kingdom which is also
known as
Udaipur.
The city is nearby Kankroli, which is a revered site for Vaishnav pilgrims.
Glimpses From History
Rajsamand history is a tale of glory. The city is a center of art and
culture. This land famous for peace and prosperity is the largest marble
manufacturer unit R.K. Marbles and the J.K. Tyre Factory. The Rajsamand Lake
acted as a base of Imperial Airways for seaplanes during World War II for
over six years.

The Attractions of Rajsamand are a real pleasure to see. They are as

Rajsamand Lake : The famous lake of Rajsamand is a
delight for everyone visiting Rajsamand. The lake is 4 miles long, 1.75
miles wide and 60 feet deep. The lake also has a huge dam built in 17th
century. Visit the southern end of the lake and you will find the levee
built of white marble having marble terraces and stone steps brushing the
lake waters. Also remarkable are the five toranas, weighing arches.
Nauchowki : On the banks of the lake there is lovely
domicile nine pavilions built by Maharana Raj Singh. The beautiful pavilions
are carved with images of Sun, chariots, Gods, birds etc.
Raj Prasasti : You will find history of Mewar inscribed
in 1017 stanzas, on twenty seven marble slabs, known as Raj Prasasti which
has also been regarded as one of the longest inscription known in India.
The Historical Sites : The historical sites of Rajasmand
include Eklingii famous for the Temple of Lord Shiva, Haldighati
famous for the battle held between Rana Pratap Singh of Mewar and the Mughal
emperor Akbar, Kumbhalgarh popular for the Fort and wildlife
Sanctuary and Ranakpur famous for the Jain Temple.
