advised Maharana Udai Singh to establish a kingdom on the fertile valley
bound by the rugged Aravalli's. Thereby in 1557 A.D. Udai Singh laid the
foundations of the city. Maharana Udai Singh, the scion of Sisodias, had
contributed a lot in the beautification of the city. Sisodias were
considered as the descendants of Sun God. They are the oldest ruling
community and the bravest of all Rajput clans. As the city is enveloped by
the Aravali ranges, it was considered as quite safe naturally.
Udaipur, the capital of Mewar, refused to be dominated by the mighty
Mughals. Maharan Pratap descended the throne after the death of Udai Singh.
