About Mewar Festival
Coinciding with
Gangaur Festival, the exciting Mewar festival heralds the
season of spring. The festival has a special charm intact to it. As the
festival concurs with Gangaur festival, the ceremonies and rituals are
apparently identical. It is the time for women when they flaunt their gaudy
costumes and chic jewelery. The festival has both religious and cultural
importance. Women folks clad in vibrant costumes gather and adorn the images
of Gauri and Isar beautifully with elegant dresses and ornaments.
Later these images are taken by
many routes of Udaipur and head for Gangaur ghat at
Lake Pichola. From here,
the images are taken into special boats and the boisterous women sing songs
of folk flavor.
Attractions of Mewar Festival
The festival is a visual treat for the participants and the spectators.
During Gangaur, the city is already interesting site and an icing on the
cake is the Mewar Festival. The site of women carrying images of Gauri on
their heads towards Lake Pichola is superb. The procession culmination in
the special boats is the best part of the festival. The attractions of the
festival abound in :
- Rajasthani folk music
- Dance performances
- Processions with pomp and show
- Songs of devotion
- Exciting firework displays
Even the
tourists to the place accede to the festivities. Your next trip to
Udaipur will be more fun filled if you will experience the panorama of the
festival yourself.
