About Pushkar Festival
Pushkar FairThe town of Pushkar is known for the exclusive Brahma temple. One more reason to visit the town is the very interesting Pushkar fair. The quaint town of Pushkar is colored in a new color of excitement. The perplexing dashes of activities and colors makes the town alive and invigorating. The mood of pilgrimage fuses with a mood of carnival during the Pushkar fair. Kartik Purnima (full moon night) of November, is the auspicious time for the fair. Over the years the fair has been a dominant source of attraction for foreign travelers also. The Department of Rajasthan Tourism and various tour operators promote international flux of visitors to witness the glory of the mela. The fair is a mirror to the cultural cornucopia of the state. Attractions of Pushkar Festival
The Pushkar Fair is basically a trade fair of cattle. The spectators here can witness the species of cattle that flock to the site. You will see buyers and sellers dickering for a fair deal, cattle curiously waiting on the sand dunes to go to new shelter. The fair is also a time for many cultural events. You must have seen models burning the ramps, but here you can see camels taking part in Beauty Pageants. The extensively decorated and ornamented camel with elegant saddles make the desert land a venue for modeling, but quite different yet amusing one. The back clothes of camel are adorned with mirrors, cowrie shells and colorful embroidery. Besides, many other fun games become an integral part of the fair. They are :

  • Cultural programs of dance and music
  • Human and camel Tug – of – war contest
  • Camel Dancing program
  • 'Laado Oonth' in which as many as possible people try to ride a camels.
  • Fun games and rides
  • Performances by folk musicians and dancers
  • Traditional textiles and handicrafts on display.
  • Shopping for silver jewelery (heavy or light) and graceful colorful Rajasthani clothes decorated with embroidery and mirror work.
