Air: The major domestic Airlines of India, the Government run Indian
Airlines operates flight between major towns in Rajasthan. Some private air
service providers also have flights to and from major cities of Rajasthan to
connect it with inter and intra state cities.
International
Airport: Jaipur is the only international airport in Rajasthan and only
daily international flight of Indian Airlines from Dubai operates to and
from here. Travelers, however, coming from foreign countries land in Delhi
or Mumbai. Delhi is the closest international airport for the travelers
coming to Rajasthan. It is just 260 kilometers away from Jaipur and many
transports are available to Jaipur from there. The other alternative is
Mumbai which is one of India major international
airports.
Domestic Airports: Rajasthan has domestic airports also
where tourists can land in Jaipur,
Jodhpur
and
Udaipur. The flights
operating at these airports have daily services to all airports in Rajasthan
from New Delhi and Mumbai.
Rail: Rajasthan has well connected network of railways
and well managed railway stations. The major towns of Rajasthan are well
connected by daily train services from New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and other
important cities of India. Within Rajasthan also there is good network of
trains which connect one city to the other. But the best way to reach and
experience Rajasthan is to board the luxury tourist train - "Palace on
Wheels".
Road: The road transport service in Rajasthan is very
good. A well developed networks of National Highways and State Highways
roads cover the entire state of
Rajasthan.
Drive from Delhi to Jaipur is very convenient since the roads are quite
smooth. It is just a five hour drive so tourists prefer going to Rajasthan
by road. You can hire private taxi or a board a tourist bus also. The
Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation gives prompt services to the
travelers to Rajasthan.
Bus: Apart form the gateways cities of Delhi and Mumbai,
there are regular bus services between other major cities of India and
Rajasthan as Agra, Aurangabad and Ahmedabad.
Car Rentals and Motorcycles: Few people bring their own
vehicles to India. You can have self drive car rental services in Rajasthan.
Hire a car or a motorcycle and enjoy the locales on your own or a chauffeur

Local Transportation in Rajasthan
Taxis: There are taxis in most of the town of Rajasthan
and most of them metered. The metered taxis are a great help for the
tourists for commutation.
Cycle Rickshaws: Hand pulled rickshaws are also common in
Rajasthan that can be used to cover shorter distances.
Auto Rickshaws:
The three wheelers powered by a two stroke motorcycle engine with a driver
up front and seat for two passengers behind makes an auto rickshaw a common
means of transportation. In almost all the cities of Rajasthan, you will
find auto rickshaws.
Tempo: Somewhat a large auto rickshaw these look like
three wheeled vehicles which operate like minibuses. They are also ideal for
a particular route they follow.
Tonga: The smaller regional towns as Nawalgarh in
Shekhawati, have horse driven carriages known as tongas. These are meant for
exclusive experiences.
Bicycle: Getting a bicycle and wandering around on a
cycle is a very good idea. But as it may be demanding in terms of physical
sturdiness to cover longer distances, you should be fit enough so as to not
to get tired very soon.
Buses: There are numerous inter-state and intra-state

Jeeps: Jeeps are another mode of transportation in
Rajasthan. They usually ply on the intra-city routes.

Camel Carts: In the rural towns and desert areas of
Rajasthan, camel carts are very common means of transportation. It is easy
to commute in the desert areas through a camel cart.
Bullock Carts: Bullock carts are used by the Rajasthanis
to carry goods from one place to another. Also sometimes, they are used for
transportation purposes.
