Wildlife Sanctuary. Fairy Queen is actually a locomotive that drives the two
coach train. The train departs from Delhi Cantonment Railway Station every
2nd and 4th Saturdays from October to March.
History of Fairy Queen
The Fairy Queen is proud to be conferred as the oldest broad gauge working
engine of world. The Fairy Queen started its journey way back in 1855
shuttling between Howrah and Raniganj stations on the East Indian Railways.
and it was Christened as "Fairy Queen" in 1895. For some years its
service were stopped in 1908. It got resurrection and started its first
commercial journey on 18th July 1997. year 1998 brought glory to the train
as it was awarded the Certification of Guinness Book of World Records as the
world's oldest working locomotives. Another feather in its cap was the
National Tourism Award given by the Prime Minister of India on 25th January
1999 for the most innovative and unique tourism project. Considering its
importance for the heritage journeys, the Fairy Queen among the top notch
heritage trains of India.
Highlights of Fairy Queen
Air Conditioned Coaches: The train has two Air
Conditioned coaches. As many as 50 passengers can seat in the coaches and
pantry car. The passenger coach looks straight into the eyes of the
beautiful lounge. It renders a stunning view to the travelers as it
traverses through the desert lands of Rajasthan.
Seats and Food: The seats of the train are superbly done.
You can simply sit back and relax, forgetting everything else. An icing on
the cake is the delectable
cuisines served on the train. The luxurious seats
and delicious food is the highlight of the journey. However, on-board
accommodation provision is not there in Fairy Queen.
Sightseeing: The sightseeing itinerary of the Fairy Queen
includes destinations of Delhi and Alwar at Rajasthan. Overnight stay is
planned at Hotel Sariska Palace. The key attraction of the tour is the
safari in Sariska tiger reserve.
