History of Palace on Wheels
The name of the train is quite apt as it really takes you back in time when
royal monarchs led a life marked with luxury and extravagance. The eighties
herald the inception of foster creation of
Rajasthan
Tourism and Indian Railway when they decided to undertake a
project of resurrecting some forgotten glorious heritages. The train was
launched by bringing the carriages brought from various princely states
together. The fascinating train offers some remarkable sites and
destinations. The smooth ride leaves passengers with an amazing feeling. The
train was started as a special holiday train hauled by a steam engine with
its inaugural trip on 26th January in 1982. Since October 1982, it has
started it regular services. This luxurious and modern train is a proud
possession of broad gauge.

The Coaches: The 14 coaches named after former Rajput
states, are in line with the aesthetics and interiors of the royal past.
These 14 saloons house mini pantry and a lounge ensuring availability of hot
and cold beverages, refreshments and a place to relax and get together.
Accommodation: There is very facility of accommodation in
Palace on Wheels. The 14 fully air-conditioned deluxe saloons have a
combination of 4 twin bedded chambers with channel music, intercom, attached
toilets, running hot and cold water, shower, wall to wall carpeting and
other amenities. The furniture with its inlaid motifs has been specially
created for the Palace on Wheels.
Restaurants: The Maharajah and The
Maharani - arte the names of two restaurants that the train has. These
lavish
restaurants
with a Rajasthani ambiance are surely a gourmet's delight. The serving
palate tickles your taste buds with Continental, Chinese, Indian and
Rajasthani
cuisines.
Bar: The boozers can find delight in exhaustive bar
offering the choicest of spirits of Indian and international brands. Adding
to the charm is a collection of books that each coach has which you pick and

Other Facilities: The saloons have been redesigned and
