Introduction

Believed
to be built for the females of the royal families to look the city from
behind the windows, Hawa Mahal is a must see tourist attraction in the
itinerary of travelers. The five storied structure look pleasingly to the
city abuzz with activity. Climb up to the top of Hawa Mahal and you get an
extraordinary view of the pink walled city including City Palace and
Jantar Mantar.
Built by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh, the mahal is a part of City Palace.
The five storyed pyramid-shaped facade has 953 pink sandstone windows,
beautified with Lattice work, usually termed as 'Jharokha'. The windows
represent a stunning touch of Mughal architecture also. The mughal
architecture helps the air circulation through the windows.
Architecture of
Hawa Mahal :
A magnificence erected in pink sandstone is the legendary Hawa Mahal, an
exquisite example of
Rajput
artistry. The palace was patterned by Lal Chand Ustad. The visitors love to
see the small screened balconies and arched ceilings called torans. The
hanging cornices further intensify the beauty. The appearance of the mahal
is enhanced by the pyramidal outline and sync of patterns. The interiors of
the mahal could hardly be called a building except around the room deep and
narrow scalloped walkways under domed canopies.
Attractions of Hawa Mahal :
Visit the palace during sunrise when the sun rays kiss the beautiful
structure and the mahal glitters in the sunshine. The riot of yellow,
golden, red and pink colors offers a breathtaking view of the palace.
There is also a small
museum for the
visitors to appreciate the charm of miniature paintings and some exclusive
relics including ceremonial armor that will take them to the bygone eras and
easily felt would be the royalty of the erstwhile maharajas.

Jantar Mantar:
Jantar Mantar,
a magnificent observatory was built by Maharaja Jai Singh II in 1728. Even
today the astrologers draw inspiration from the observatory. It is the best
and the largest of the five observatories built.
