Introduction
Jagmandir PalaceJagmandir Palace was initiated by Maharaja Karan Singh in 1620 but it was extended by Maharaja Jagat Singh and so it has been named after him. If legends are to believed, it is said that even Shah Jahan was so much so inspired by its beauty, when he stayed here and lead a revolt against his father Jehangir, that he took ideas especially of pieta dura work and incorporated them while making the legendary epitome of love – Taj Mahal. However, the two monuments are poles apart in terms of architecture. The travelers are delighted to see the serene palace amidst lake Pichola where they actually enjoy boat cruise to reach it. The breathtaking view of the impeccable valley enveloped in hills make the cruise all the more exciting. In the middle of the lake the palace stands superbly offering a stunning view to the joyous beholders. The place has been now become a venue for organizing piano concerts and other joyful occasions including wedding.

Architecture of Jagmandir Palace :
There is a difference between Taj and Jagmadir in terms of their architecture. Where Taj is an example of Mughal architecture, Jagmandir Palace is by far a personification of Rajput artistry. The palace is built in the finest yellow sandstone with the interiors of inlaid designs in onyx, jasper and agate. The tourists are amused to see statues of eight elephant facing Jag Niwas from Jag Mandir and the empty island with the domed pavilion that are grey blue in color. The Gul Mahal of the Jagmandir Palace is typical to Islamic style of architecture and has preserved some exquisite Mughal paintings and murals.

Attractions of Jag Mandir Palace :
Gul Mahal: It is main attraction of the palace where you will find Mughal architecture, Mughal Paintings and murals. This is the place where Prince Khurram stayed. The pavilion is beautified with Muslim crescents and interiors are richly done.

Museum: The museum in the palace will tell you everything about history of island. The collection here is greatly explored by the tourists. The frangipani trees and courtyards are some other attractions.

Pavilions: The pavilions of the palace are appreciable. Enjoy visiting Bara Patharon ka Mahal, Kunwar Pada ka Mahal and the Zenana Mahal where they are built of twelve solid marble slabs. The gardens in the palace have plants of roses, jasmine, bougainvillea and palm trees.

Places to See Around Jagmandir :
Jagniwas Island: Jagniwas, the Lake Palace island, was built by Maharaja Jagat Singh II in 1754. The graceful palace is a must for the tourists.

City Palace: The City Palace of Udaipur is the largest palace complex in Rajasthan. Surmounted by balconies the structure has retained its original design. The City Palace attracts tourists in a large number.
