Introduction

Standing
close to the
Amber
Fort is the Jaigarh Fort tucked on a mountain cliff and surrounded
by huge battlements with inside walkways that offer breathtaking views to
all directions including view of Jaipur below. Incepted by Jai Singh I, the
present fort dates back to reign of Jai Singh II. Since 1983 the fort has
been open for public. The fort has never been conquered by anyone. As the
reign of Mughal dynasty had produced many weapons for Mughals and Rajputs,
the fort has a huge cannon is made of an alloy of eight metals with a huge
barrel and dates back to 1720. Also remarkable is the rainwater harvesting
system. The fort has also served as a treasury to the Kachhwahas.
Architecture of
Jaigarh Fort :
The Jaigarh Fort of Rajasthan is one of the most spectacular forts with a
military architecture and so called Victory Fort. It is tucked on the Cheel
ka tilla (Mound of Eagles) almost 400 feet above the Amber Fort. The mighty
walls of Jaigarh fort are spread over three km. The fort is covered by a
moat and other prerequisites for a sturdy bastion. The tank in the fort
measures 158 feet by 138 feet and is 40 feet deep, and can hold 60,00,000
gallons of water. The architecture of the fort is more like military
architectural wonders in a fine state of preservation.
