How to Reach Nahargarh Fort : Take local Buses or hire local Taxis from the city
Introduction

The
stalwart of Nahargarh built in 1734 by Maharaja Jai Sawai Singh has been
extended by the successive rulers. The fort guards the pink city of
Jaipur
from a downright rhaphe to the north. The fort is a story of glorious past.
The legends hold it that the fort has been named after the prince whose
spirit haunted the fort and destructed the construction each day until he
was promised to name to th effort after him.
As Jaipur was the capital of
Maharaja Jai Sawai Singh, he constructed the fort very methodically as a
buttress to protect Amer. This 'Tiger Fort' had seen many extensions during
the 19th century by Sawai Ram Singh II and Sawai Madho Singh II when they
the used th effort as a monsoon retreat. The old and new additions to the
fort are still ravishing. Driving through the zigzag trail of road is worth
the effort you put in to go to the fort.
Architecture of Nahargarh Fort :
The robust fort is a heritage monument of Jaipur attracting many tourists.
It is located atop a hill and offers picture perfect view of Man Sagar Lake.
Originally the fort was called Sudarshan Garh. The main attraction of fort
Madhavendra Bahwan was designed by Vidyadhar Bhattacharya who also planned
Jaipur city. The palaces and suites of the fort have been embellished with
beautiful frescoes and stucco designs mainly used by the harem women.
The fort was retreat for even the royal ladies. The fortifications of
Nahargarh fort are very strong. The palaces and royal quarters are exemplar
of Rajput
art depicting their taste for luxury. The doors
and windows of the palace have colored panes. Some of the boudoirs have
Belgian mirrors which are decorated with motifs of birds and flowers. The
Zenana derohi had Indo European style of architecture with rectangular
windows and western styled toilets
Attractions of Nahargarh Fort :
Madhavendra Bhawan: It is the main attraction of the
fort. This palace was exquisitely designed by Vidyadhar Bhattacharya. The
Bhawan has nine apartments of Maharaja Ram Singh's nine other wives with a
separate suite for the king himself. It houses washrooms, bathrooms,
boudoirs and kitchen with a large chimney.
Corridors: The apartments are linked by a series of
corridors. These corridors were designed in such a way that the king could
visit any of his queen's quarters without letting any other queen noticing
it.
Zenana Derohi: Nine wives of the maharaja were given two
storied apartments which were set around a rectangular courtyard. On the
each queen's apartments her name was inscribed for the convenience of king.
Sightseeing around Nahargarh Fort :
Royal Gaitor: The royal cenotaphs are located just
outside the city walls. This fascinating place remians unexplored by many.
It is a serene place to rest and enjoy the straggling
village, the monument
swith intricate carvings.
Nahargarh Biological Park of Rajasthan: The park consists
of quartzitek and granite rocks with and tropical dry deciduous and tropical
thorn forests. You can find species of Tiger, Leopard, Asiatic Lion, Sloth
Bear, Caracal, several species of Deer, Gharial, Crocodile and Otter in its
wetlands, Pangolin Jackal, Wild Dog, Wolf, Hyena, Jungle Civet and Fishing
Cats, Ratel, Common and Desert Fox, Wild Boar, Rhesus Monkey and Langur, and
many avian species.
