About the Temple

Commonly
known as Laxmi Narayan Temple, the new city of
Jaipur houses the much
revered shrine of Lord Laxmi Narayan. The temple was built by a business
family Birla and it is thereby named so. The beautiful temple
stands at the foot of the Moti Doongri. Moti Doongri was a fort which was
later turned into a palace for Gayatri Devi by Raja man Singh II. The idol
of Lord Laxmi Narayan and his consort Goddess Laxmi are the prime deity of

Architecture
Remarkable edifice with exquisite kind of architecture is the key feature
of the temple that attracts a large of
tourists. The majestic temple is a
massive structure in white marble. The stained glass windows of the temple
depict the scenes from Hindu scriptures. The temple is a manifestation of
Indian architectural virtuosity. The carved pillars and the paintings in the
inner sanctum of the temple are worth appreciating. Specially remarkable are
the three domes of the temple that represent three different faiths.
The architectural marvel of the temple is reflected by the imposing
exteriors with spectacular carved sculptures depicting many mythological
images and themes. The temple inner halls have deities of Hindu pantheon and
the outer walls are have images of great historical personages and images of

religion's personnels as Socrates, Zarathustra, Christ, Buddha and
Confucius. The shikhars of the temple reaches to a height of 165 feet. The
renowned painters of Jaipur have contributed in the carvings, paintings of
the temple.

Museum: The
museum is a delight for the tourists,
pilgrims and historians. You will love to see the collection here including
the possessions of Birla family household objects and clothings.
Ganesh Temple: The idol of Lord Ganesha is the most
revered by the pilgrims. The mythological themes in the inner walls are a
pleasure to see. Inside the temple one can images of many Hindu deities. The
image of Lord Shiva stands alone in the lush garden of the Birla temple.
Birla Planetarium: The planetarium hosts show in two
languages Hindi and English. The shows are a must for the tourists to
Jaipur. If you wish an English commentary, then go for the evening session
which starts at 6 in the evening.
Janamashtmi: Come Janamashtmi and the Birla temple is
abuzz with festivities and activities. The magnificent look is rendered to
the temple by lit diya and whole temple is brightly illuminated and
decorated.
