About the Temple
Galta Temple, Jaipur, RajasthanThe temple is one of its kind in the pink hued city of Jaipur. The temple is tucked in the cliff facing a a rocky valley. The temple is a storehouse of some sacred natural reservoirs (kunds) which only the adventure freaks dare to jump in from the adjoining cliffs. But the devotees to the pilgrimage take a holy dip in the kund water. The holiest of these kunds is the Galta kund which is believed to have magical powers to purge away the sins and is never dry. All the kunds are fed by a spring originating from the Gaumukh, a rock carved in the shape of a cow's head. The temple is set amidst serene and picture perfect ambiance. Abound in legends, the place has some beautiful natural springs and offer some lovely views of city from a ridge. Economically sponsored by the Birla family, the temple lies at the at the bottom of some hills in a lush landscape of trees and bushes. The site was once an ashram of Sage Galab. However, the temple was built later Diwan Rao Kriparam, a courtier of Sawai Jai Singh II, in the 18th Century.

Beautiful Architecture
The temple of Galta has many temples, pavilions, natural springs and holy 'kunds'. The beauty of the temple is intensified by pink sandstone. The aesthetic value of the temple is the highlight for the visitors and pilgrims. The temple walls are decorated with frescoes depicting athletic feats, the Maharaja playing Polo and lilas of Krishna and Gopis. The walls and pillars of the temple exhibit some exquisite engravings. Whole complex is visual treat for the visitors. Even after dilapidation of the complex, the extensively carved balconies and painted ceilings are a pleasure to see.

Must See - Must Do
Surya Temple: As the temple stands on top of the highest peak here, it gives panoramic views of the city and the surroundings. The Sun temple was built by Rao Kriparam.

Monkey Temple: The desolate and barren land of Galta house this remarkable temple of Hanuman. On sunset the devotees can have encounters with the monkeys where they can buy them peanuts.

Excursion Trips
Sisodia Rani ka Bagh and Vidyadharji ka Bagh: This pair of gardens close to Galta temple and is ideal for rambling around breathing in fresh air. The tourist's delight are the terraced gardens with fountains and statuary built by the second wife of Maharaja Jai Singh. Vidyadharji ka bagh was built to commemorate the contribution of Vidyadhar in city planning and architecture.

Abhaneri: A rendezvous with the rustic village culture of Rajasthan awaits you in Abhaneri. founded by King Raja Chand, the village is remarkable for the step wells – baoris and Harshat Mata Temple.

Balaji: At a distance of 102 Km from Jaipur, the Hindu exorcism temple of Balaji is a place for people who suffer from possession. On Tuesday and Saturday comes huge crowd of victims.
