About the Temple

The
magnificent Jain temple sprawling in an area of about 60 x 62 meters.
Devoted to Adinatha, the first tirthankar of Jains, the temple is sacred
pilgrimage for Jains and even Non Jains. The wooded valley of Ranakpur
houses this one of the biggest and most imposing Jain temple in India. The
pilgrims are awed by the intricate domes, copulas, turrets and shikhar which
elevate imperially from a hill slope. The temple complex is proud of its
exquisite beauty at the backdrop of Aravali ranges. So, next time when you
are going to Jodhpur from Udaipur do not forget to stopover this serene but
enchanting place to offer your prayers.
Beautiful
Architecture
The Chaumaukha Mandir, which literally it means Four Faced Temple, is the
main temple complex here. The structure of the temple is all about
unparalleled beauty of milk white marble and distinguished architecture. The
temple has about nine basements, 84 idols of gods and demi gods and a
perplexing array of of 29 halls supported by 1444 pillars, with no two
pillars alike which offer a spectacular view to the beholders. The knotted
carvings of the interiors adorned with engravings of Jain saviors, plant and
floral motifs, are a special attraction. The sense of space, peace and
harmony is reflected through the pale interiors.
Must See - Must Do
If time is not running from your hands, count the pillars in the temple
complex, which is believed to be impossible. See all the statues that face
one or the other image, facing all cardinal directions and a beautiful
carving that is made out of a single marble rock with 108 snake heads and
many tails. Also try to find the end of the these tails which again is very
hard. The amazing thing about the temple is that the temple was nominated as
one of the top 77 wonders in a contest for the new seven wonders of the
world.
Within the temple complex there are other two Jain temples which are
devoted to Neminath and Parasnath, also known as the Patriyon Ka Mandir,
famous for the pierced windows studded with Jain figures and pictures of
attendants of maidens. Also a Sun Temple close by is worth visiting where
the exquisite idol of Sun God in his chariot is drawn by seven horses. Make
a trip to Amba Mata Temple about 1 km away from the main complex. Enter from
any of the four entrances in the temple and reach the main complex.
