About the Temple

Seek
the blessings form Lord Krishna at the Shrinathji temple in Nathadwara on
your excursion tour from Udaipur. Few tourists but many pilgrims flock to
the place to offer their prayers. Specifically special for the Vaishnavites
followers of Vishnu and his incarnations the temple has a
black stone image of Lord Krishna that is said to be brought from Mathura
Vrindavan in 1669 to secure it from Aurangzeb's destructive impulses. On the
way, the wheel of the vehicle stuck here and could not be moved forward. The
accompanying priest took it as an indication from the God himself and so
after rites and rituals, the idol was enshrined here. It is a treat for eyes
seeing the attendants taking care of the shrine meticulously - washing,
draping, offering meals and lull to sleep.
Beautiful
Architecture
At the backdrop of idyllic hills it is thought of to be the second richest
temple in the world. Pilgrims can have glimpses of the Krishna idol kept in
the inner sanctum of the temple for short intervals eight times a day.
Otherwise, the temple is generally free from crowds. People come here to see
the architecture of the site, enjoy the leisurely walks amidst the natural
surroundings to feel the regal grandeur of the bygone years. To keep the
temple adequately ventilated and airy, the construction is done around many
split level courtyards with a pure white facade on the exteriors. The
doorways have been adorned with paintings of elephants, horses, beautiful
maidens and doorkeepers on all the doorways. The famous pichwai paintings
are said to be originated from here.
Must See - Must Do
Pilgrims here, like to see the services offered to Lord Krishna. Here puja
(worship) is replaced by seva (servitude). The image is treated just like a
child by the attendants. People come in the evening when God wakes up after
siesta. Pilgrims love to see the divine child seeking parental love, Krishna
playing flute in the forests of Vrindavan enticing the maidens with the
melody.
Some of the attractions in the temple include:
- Moti Mahal
- Sudarshan Chakraraj
- Dhwajaji
- Kamal Chowk
- Ratan Chowk
- Mani Kotha
- Temples of Shri Navnit Priyaji
- Shri Krishna storehouse (having silver and golden mills)
Excursion Trips
Kankroli and Rajasmand Lake: Similar to the temple at
Nathdwara, Kankroli shelters a beautiful temple of Dwarkadheesh - an
incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Even the darshan timings are similarly erratic.
Nearby the large
Rajsamand
lake is made of a dam built in 1660 by Maharaja Raj Singh. The embankment
has old and numerous inscriptions, ornamental arches, engraved chattris.
