The oldest mountain ranges of India, Aravali, houses a very beautiful
sanctuary, Mt. Abu Wildlife Sanctuary. Established in 1960, the sanctuary is
a home to many species of flora and fauna. The rocks of this area igneous
and due to the weathering effect of wind and water, large cavities are
common in them. The sanctuary is famous among the travelers who seek solace
and enjoy nature walks. The nature lovers can enjoy eco tourism here. This
long and narrow sanctuary spreads like a picturesque plateau from top.
National and International tourists who come to Mt. Abu make sure to visit

Flora and Fauna
of Mt. Abu Wildlife Sanctuary
The sanctuary is a delight to see. The varieties of flora and fauna attract
an incredible number of tourists. The nature lovers find an amazing
diversity in flora of the sanctuary. Rather it is only place in Rajasthan to
observe a variety of orchids. The forests of the sanctuary from xenomorphic
sub-tropical thorn forests of the foot hills to sub-tropical evergreen
forests that run along water courses and valleys at higher altitudes. 112
plant families with 499 genera and 820 species are a treasure of the
sanctuary. Ornithologists have identified about 81 species of trees, 89
species of shrubs, 28 species of climbers and 17 species of tuberous plants
of medicinal importance
The fauna family of the park is no less in number. You will explore a wide
range of fauna, including highly rare, threatened and endangered species.
Even lion and tiger have inhabited the sanctuary in the past. The present
population of leopard, sambhar, jungle cat, small Indian civet, wolf,
hyaena, jackal, Indian fox, common langoor, sloth bear, wild boar, pangolin,
common mongoose, Indian hare, porcupine and hedgehog are of major
attraction. Even the avian kingdom of the sanctuary is rich. You will find
250 species of birds and most importantly the grey jungle fowl.
Tourist Attractions in Mount Abu Wildlife Sanctuary
Bird Watching: There is a lot to be explored in the sanctuary. 250 species
is no less number. Enjoy taking you binoculars and waiting a bird pass you
sight. You will thrilled to hear th echirping of the birds ans singing
melodious tunes.
